Indiana had a tough task laid out in front of the team before the Big Ten season started. The Hoosiers had to go on the road twice in the historically difficult conference.
The result? Two wins and a 2-0 Big Ten record (14-1 overall).
IU got off to a big start against Penn State and were able to ride it to a 74-51 victory.
The Hoosiers were able to overcome an awful second half that saw them turn the ball over 11 times, go multiple minutes without a field goal, and miss too many free throws.
IU was led by an extra aggressive Christian Watford. The senior clearly made it a point to improve his ability to drive with the ball and score in the paint, rather than just be a jump shooter. Watford had 16 points and eight rebounds.
Cody Zeller had a particularly impressive defensive game. The center blocked two shots and stole the ball four times. He also had 15 points and five points. Zeller did struggle from the free throw line, hitting five of his nine shots.
Jordan Hulls got over his abysmal game at Iowa to give the Hoosiers 14 points.
Victor Oladipo wasn't quite as dynamic as he has been in the past but did manage 10 points and six rebounds. He turned the ball over six times, which is atypical of him and hopefully won't become a trend.
The Hoosiers will return home to prepare for a show down with No. 8 Minnesota on Saturday.
