The Hoosiers (18-2, 6-1) defeated the Spartans (17-4, 6-2) 75-70 but should have won by 15. IU suffered too many self inflicted wounds with 16 turnovers.
Michigan State played the passing lanes well and stole the ball from IU 11 times. Most of the steals were the result of absurdly lazy passes from a typically sharp Hoosier squad.
For IU, it was the Victor Oladipo show. The junior had 21 points seven rebounds, six steals, and three blocks. He was all over the place for IU and played lock down defense all game. His hot shooting continues as he connected on 8-of-12 shots. For his efforts, Oladipo was named the Big Ten Player of the Week.
Four Hoosiers scored 10 or more points, and the list doesn't include Cody Zeller. Zeller had nine points off 2-of-7 shooting. His lack of aggression and willingness to settle for hooks, floaters, and fade away jumpers is disappointing. The star center's draft stock is plummeting as his struggles continue. Zeller managed seven rebounds, but was a non-factor for much of the game and was getting abused on the low block when playing defense.
The bench proved to be effective once again giving IU 12 points (and only turned the ball over three times). Will Sheehey had the bulk of the points with eight.
We'll have a more in-depth of this review up tomorrow.
